ALAN PITNEY RECOGNIZED BY FELLOW AMERICAN SOCIETY OF SAFETY ENGINEERS’ MEMBERS

DENVER, CO – The American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) Colorado chapter recently honored ASSE member Alan S. Pitney, CSP, with its annual Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) award for his ongoing contribution to protecting people, property and the environment, his chapter, and the Society. ASSE is a 99-year-old safety society with more than 32,000 occupational safety, health and environmental (SH&E) members located worldwide.

Pitney has been an ASSE member since 1981 and became a professional member when he earned his Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation in 1990. He served as chapter president from 2004-2005 and during his tenure the chapter established the Northern Colorado section. In 2006, Pitney received the ASSE Chapter Stars Recognition Award at the Society’s annual professional development conference held that year in Seattle, WA. He also served as Region II assistant vice president for chapter and regional affairs from 2006-2008. Pitney was a member of the first AIHA-RMS/ASSE Colorado Joint Fall Technical Conference committee. The two-day annual technical conference for safety and health professionals combines technical talks with a vendor expo and draws health and safety professionals from around the region.

Pitney is a senior environmental health and safety (EHS) professional for Questar Market Resources in Denver, CO, and has earned degrees from Colorado State University and the University of Denver where he received his Masters in Environmental Policy and Management. He also holds an Advanced Certificate in Environmental Management from the University of Denver.

As an SH&E professional for Questar Exploration and Production company’s mid-continent (Tulsa and Oklahoma City) and southern Rockies (Denver-Legacy) divisions, Pitney supports operations managers and their 13 field foremen in CO, NM, TX, OK, AR and LA.

The SPY awards, voted on by peers, are given annually to the most outstanding safety professionals for contributions to service and leadership within their regions and chapters – for “making a difference”. There are eight ASSE regions, each containing anywhere from 15 to 20 chapters. ASSE members volunteer their time to assist their chapters and the society in promoting work safety and the SH&E profession.
