A Taste of Trinidad - October 3, 2009

Cougar Canyon Hosts the 2nd Annual Taste of Trinidad, Saturday, October 3rd

Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Gossage to Be on Hand

In only its second year, the Taste of Trinidad is quickly growing to be a “can’t miss” Southern Colorado outdoor event.

The highlight of this year’s festival is the celebrity guest appearance of Richard “Goose” Gossage, the nine-time Major League Baseball All-Star and recent Hall of Fame inductee. The Goose will be at the Taste of Trinidad to receive a key to the City of Trinidad from the city’s mayor, the Honorable Joe Reorda. Gossage will also be receiving an honorary lifetime golf membership from the event host, Cougar Canyon. The key ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m., and afterwards, Gossage will be available to meet festival-goers.

The Hall of Famer’s visit is one of the many happenings throughout the day. The Taste kicks-off with free hot air balloon rides beginning at 7:30 a.m. followed by the Taste of Trinidad 5K Run and Fun Walk on the streets of Cougar Canyon at 9:00 a.m. Beginning in the morning and continuing until 4:00 p.m., folks can enjoy the Taste of Trinidad itself, a food fair of more than a dozen of Trinidad’s favorite restaurants. Jay Cimino, the owner of the Phil Long Dealerships, the Taste of Trinidad’s Title Sponsor, will also be on hand to officially start the 5K Run and Fun Walk.

During the festival, kids will enjoy a huge play area complete with bounce rooms and other activities while parents can appreciate masterworks of art by Trinidad’s nationally-famous artists at the regional art exhibition hosted by the Trinidad Area Arts Council. The festival will have music all day long with a live broadcast from KCRT Radio and live country, rock, and bluegrass music from some of the area’s best bands.

All proceeds of the festival go to the Trinidad community Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports worthy causes and organizations in and around the Trinidad area.

To register for the 5K Run and Fun Walk, visit www.CougarCanyonLiving.com and click on the Taste of Trinidad logo on the home page or call (719) 846-0538 x114. Admission to the Taste of Trinidad is free for the balloon rides, kids’ area, live music, art exhibition and for the opportunity to meet Goose Gossage. To sample the best of the Taste of Trinidad, visitors can purchase tickets at the site; 1 ticket = $1 dollar, and tickets are redeemed at the food booths.
