While summer is on its way out and fall is on its way in, enjoy a short day trip to The Cañon City Queen Anne Tea House (www.thecanoncityqueenanne.com., www.canoncitycoloradoqueenanneteahouse.mobi) for a Afternoon/Lunch Tea or a High/Dinner Tea that you won't forget.

Not just another tea house, this fine dining establishment in a historical 1889 Victorian house has many stories to tell. Al and Linda Ballard, a determined and energetic couple, came out of semi-retirement to fulfill a lifelong dream of Linda's purchasing the Victorian house in 2002. The Ballard's have renovated the house to its former glory and even added a 1,000 square foot wrap around veranda.

The first floor has four themed tea rooms, seating 30 people; the Victorian, the Roman, the English and the Old Country, as well as seating on the veranda, weather permitting. They have been awarded a perfect score by the health department since opening 12/10/07.

“All Teas” are served on fine china with cloth napkins and include freshly brewed tea, baked scones with devonshire cream.

AFTERNOON TEAS/lunches (11 a.m. and 2 p.m.) include specialty sandwiches on croissants, muffellata’s, panini’s and quiches; finger foods, mini desserts and chocolates, $16.99 per person.

HIGH TEAS/five course dinners (6:00 p.m.) include soups, salads, main course to include steaks (organic choices available,) beef wellington, salmon, shrimp, chicken cordon blue, cornish hen; starch, vegetable and specialty desserts. Complimentary Glass of Champagne, Sparkling Martinelli’s, Wine, upon request, $27.99 to $43.99 per person.

In addition to serving elegant teas, they host special events like anniversaries, baby showers, birthdays, bridal luncheons, personal tributes, retirement parties, in a beautiful environment. The Queen Anne is Media Center equipped for celebrations, meetings, receptions. They offer Baking and Cooking classes, demonstrations on the third Saturday of each month at 2 P.M., cost is $30.00 per person and includes scones, devonshire, tea, recipes, tips, handouts. The September session will be “Tea tasting;” the October session “Cake Decorating” and November session “The Art of Pie Making,” with Linda Ballard.

The Cañon City Queen Anne is open Tuesday through Saturday.
