ADA awarded Air Force Battery Contract

DENVER-(BUSINESS WIRE)--ADA Technologies, Inc. (ADA) received a $100,000 contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory to develop an advanced Lithium-Polymer (LiPo) battery for use in miniaturized hybrid power systems for micro air vehicles (MAVs).

Rapid advancements in micro/nano technologies for MAV components, including actuators, flight control systems, sensors, and on-board data processors, are enabling a new breed of extremely small and lightweight MAVs. The tiny MAVs, some as small as insects, are in high demand due to their numerous military, commercial and scientific applications; however, progress has been hampered by the lack of a robust on-board power system.

ADA’s new hybrid-power device is based on utilizing nanostructured electrodes and environmentally friendly electrolytes to develop an advanced LiPo battery that is capable of operating in both high-power and high-energy modes, thus eliminating the need for two separate devices.

According to Wen Lu, Ph.D., ADA project manager, “Current hybrid power systems rely on pairing a fuel cell or high energy lithium-ion battery with a high power device, such as an ultracapacitor. Because two separate devices are needed to provide power, this type of system is impractical for use on MAVs where space and weight restrictions are critical.”

The lightest-weight LiPo batteries currently available don’t provide sufficient energy and power densities and impose a variety of operational limitations that are unacceptable for MAV power systems.

“ADA’s new technology will allow for substantial greater range, endurance and maneuverability for this highly volume- and mass-constrained class of vehicles,” said Doug Campbell, R&D program manager. “Specific attributes include increased power and energy densities, longer lifecycle and storage life, increased safety and reduced weight.”

Professor Marijuana’s Seminar Over Grows Venue

In 2004 Dana K May, a registered Medical Marijuana Patient was Raided by DEA and Aurora PD Dressed in full SWAT gear assault rifles at the ready, how could they have ever known it was Dana with the right weapons.Dana, more commonly known as “Professor Marijuana” was armed with almost 40 years of Marijuana Cultivation experience, a personal rule to “Question Authority” and the States number one Pot Attorney, Robert Corry. Generally it’s the person detained who is quaking but the headline “FEDS BACKS DOWN IN MEDICAL POT CASE” told the true story. Dana became the first person in U.S. history to have the Federal Government return marijuana Growing equipment.

Now a Litigation Certified Expert Witness in both marijuana cultivation and medical marijuana, Dana was the sole witness in the 2007 case Arapahoe vs. Dickes where the Gulf War Veteran had his 71 cannabis plants returned. More recently in the Boulder vs. Jason Lauve case the Professor played a pivotal role in Jason’s complete vindication. Yet another precedent setting case under his belt. It was Jason who asked Dana to put on the seminar.

We expected twenty people or so to attend, said Jessica Healzer PA to Professor Marijuana. But Dana’s who’s world wide notoriety, who once again teamed up with Rob Corry has brought in 100 students who have shelled out $250 each to learn from CO’s own master POT grower. Others who have sought Dana’s advice have included Senator Romer author of an upcoming MM bill, whose bill the Professor doesn’t support.

Live marijuana plants equipment and a hundred potential growers hungry for the best possible advice will gather at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 4444 Havana Denver, CO . Doors open at 8:00 and the Seminar starts promptly at 9:00 AM running until 6 PM

New Book Celebrates Area Craft Brewers, and their Dogs

Dogs, Beer and Colorado: New Gift Book Showcases All Three

BrewDogs is a photographic tribute to Colorado craft brewers and the dogs they love.
Colorado is well known for its geographic beauty---mountains, rock formations, alpine streams and wildflowers. Of almost equal stature is the staggering number of craft beer breweries dotted throughout the state. Over 100 microbreweries turn out enough beer to make Colorado one of the largest beer-producing states in the nation. As a result, the Great American Beer Festival makes its yearly home here. Regardless of the numbers, there’s one statistic that’s true almost across the board: where there is a craft brewer, there is usually a brew dog at his side. As a playful tribute to those brewers and their canine companions, The BrewDogs of Colorado was born, just in time for the gift-giving season.

The book, a high quality, 152-page hardbound edition with images of over 70 brew dogs and over 200 color photos of breweries throughout Colorado, was produced by a Colorado Springs family. “While the idea was not exactly born over a beer, the connection between beer and dogs is not too far ‘fetched’”, said co-authors Brian and Becky Bennett. “We realized that not only are most Colorado breweries dog-friendly, but a lot of beers are named after dogs.” As canine lovers themselves, the idea of a book to celebrate this relationship came to fruition, and turned into a summer long project involving the whole family, including daughters Lauren and Kristen. “With over 100 breweries in Colorado, it wasn’t hard to find an award winning craft beer, and a dog to go with it.”

John Hickenlooper, Mayor of Denver and a Colorado brewpub pioneer, contributed the foreword and a photo of his own brew dog. Slated to hit the bookstands on December 15, The BrewDogs of Colorado retails for $29.95 and is an ideal gift with appeal for both dog and beer lovers alike. It can also be ordered online at www.brewdogsbook.com. Place online orders by December 20 for delivery by Christmas. Several booksignings have been scheduled at breweries and bookstores; check the Brew Dogs website for dates and venues.
